Filipinos are noted for their friendliness,
warmth and an inherent sense of hospitality
which are fine traits that have endeared them
to people all over the world. The country's
111 cultural, linguistic and racial groups
result in a colorful culture of diverse customs
and traditions, further shaped by Chinese,
American and Spanish influences. In spite
of their diversity, Filipinos share two dominant
traits: strong family ties and a strong religious
faith.
With one of the world's fastest growing populations
the Philippines now has an average density
of about 320 people per square miles. The highest
concentrations of people are in south-central
Luzon and on Cebu and other central Visayan
islands. Relatively low polulation densities
are found on Mindanao and Palawan and in the
mountainous parts of Luzon. Most of the population
is rural, and the majority of the people live
in small farming villages,called barriors.
