Not
long time ago it was definatly risky to hire a taxi in Prague, but fortunatly
since 1st of April 98, there are regulations. If you take a taxi for a trip within
Prague and you do not go out of Prague's borders you can hire a cab without beeing
scared if you pay attention to the following: Prior to setiing off, the taximeter
must be reset and the figure 30 Kc will appear on the display.
There
is for all taxis within the city of Prague a regulated maximum rate: A One-off
boarding charge is max. 30; 1 kilometer within the city bounderies is max. 22
Kc and Waiting is max. 4 Kc per miunute. Make sure you ask for a receipt before
paying. Receipts have to be printed out by the taximeter since April 98 .

Each taxi has to be equipped
with permanently installed yellow roof lamp with the TAXI sign in black letters.
The registration number, company name and
the price list including the basic rate, kilometer rate and one-minute-waiting
rate must be displayed on both front doors of the cab. These prices must correspond
with the prices set on the meters in the cabs.
Customers are recommended to
order a taxi with nonstop dispatching offices where the information on fares is
available in advance.
After the journey is
completed, the customer has the right to ask the taxi driver for an orderly and
fully filled receipt for the payment. The receipt has to be issued by the taxameter
printer.
